CLARISSE MUVEMBA
Clarisse Muvemba, born in 1979, started her singing career in church at an early age. However, it was through her father and his record collection of traditional Congolian music, RnB, Soul and Jazz that she developed her love for music. Mixing influences from everything like Louis Armstrong and Nancy Wilson to Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston, Clarisse has always stood with one foot in the old and one in the new.
So far Clarisse has appeared on various productions both as backing vocalist, and as lead singer, together with Solution, Thunder Express, Hellacopters, Linn, Sumo and Jazz Experience. Now she releases her first project as a solo artist on Heya Hifi. Produced by Sumo, the Ep "Roses" clearly displays the sound of her voice, which takes you back to the Swinging twenties and its dark and smokey jazz clubs. Put against a more futuristic back drop it gives you the perfect clash between now and then, organic and artificial, sweet and salty, which glues her voice to your mind.
