One of Sumo’s first productions together was a remix of this Detroit house classic. Alf, who used to play the original version in his dj-sets, was really excited.
– At that time I was living in London and the underground garage sound affected me a lot. With this remix I saw a chance to mix traditional US garage with the energetic UK sound, says Alf. Combo, who just recently had gotten in touch with house music, paid his due with some jazzy chords and sax licks on top (the result sounded very much lika a MJ Cole-production, they thought, but it was only released as a white label).
However, after five years in oblivion, the Sumo boys found the sound files on a cd behind the fridge. The guys were in the middle of putting together their remix album and decided to give the Mindreaders song a second chance. This time they had two different ideas they wanted to try out; one which was true to the original old school sound, and one where the singer Malik Hart would be backed up by some great Swedish musicians.
A week later the two ideas had developed into four different versions; an additional dub for those, who for some reasons don’t feel the magic of the vocals, and one broken beat version for those funky pants. Enjoy.
