STORY OF THE TRACKS

Skrik (Swedish) scream (English) grito (Spanish) huuto (Finnish)

Heavily inspired by Norway’s greatest artist Edvard Munch (1863-1944) Bangana created this piece of musical work – a homage to one of Scandinavias most expressive painters.

The work of Edvard Munch often included the symbolic portrayal of such themes as misery, sickness, and death. This is how he described the underlying experience of his world famous painting called “Skriet” (The Scream):
“I was out walking with two friends - the sun began to set - suddenly the sky turned blood red - I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence - there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city - my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety - and I sensed an endless scream passing through nature.”

“The Scream” is typical in its anguished expression of isolation and fear. It’s established as the epitome of Munch’s work as an artist. The painting, which seethes with movement, appears to be painted with an explosive force and the result is a genuine expression of an agitated mind. It has become recognised as the actual mental image of the existential angst of civilised man. This is Expressionism as Munch saw it: an extremely subjective, existential art, retaining something original and primitive.
